Day 157

What a fantastic time we have had over the passed 4 days.  We have just finished our WMT training.  We went for the full 4 day Advanced Medicine for Remote Foreign Travel and it was worth every single penny we spent on it.  The lecturers that we had were Dr Jon Dallimore, James Moore and Tariq Qureshi - what an amazing bunch of people (If you're reading this, thanks a mill!).  Trevor and I have both come away from it with the view that its probably been one of the most interesting and important courses we have ever done.  Along with it being practical and informative, it gave us the opportunity to find out a little more about ourselves, our weaknesses and our potential strengths.  Although the course hasn't made us experts it has certainly helped us to recognise our boundaries, to push those out a bit further and has given us an understanding of what we are capable of.

To top it off, the course also gave us the opportunity to meet up with some really interesting people.  From school teachers, to overlanders, students, sailors, expedition leaders, film makers and those willing to push themselves beyond their limits to raise money for good causes.  No matter that we have a fantastic opportunity to take time off to do our trip, there is always someone out there that you look at and think "wow, what an amazing journey.  I wish I could do that" - a really humbling experience....  and we have discovered that there are far more intrepid explorers and adventurers out there than we ever guessed.

Thank you, Lee, for taking the time out to take the photos.  Here's us doing one of the most interesting bits... :o)

Hold still for your injection - it's just a little prick!  Checking that I haven't hit a vein..  Trevor getting his IV - no further to fall!!  Carry on, I promise not to look.  Finishing up a great job!

So now the hard work begins as we start to put together our medical kit and choose what we need and what we don't.  Since attending the course, our view of the kit has changed but we have a better idea now of what we are going to take with us for our time away.

Hi

It was great to meet you both on the course. We are a bit jealous that you are going so soon but I can only imagine your 'to-do' list. Anyway, just want to wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Hi both

Thanks for the good wishes. Hope you have had (and are still having!) a great time over the holidays. Apologies, we forgot that we were due to send you some contact details for the carnet: Paul Gowan of RAC (pkgowen@rac.co.uk). Fabulous guy, knowledgable and really helpful. I'll put a more detailed entry on our Links page a bit later which you can get to by clicking the Links at the top of the page. Take care.

Hi there,

Jan, were you a bit aprrehensive about the drip being inserted as I see you were looking away or was Trev nervous about you seeing what he was doing? I am so impressed with you two, could'nt have imagined you giving injections or putting up an IV, not the easiest thing to do to one another.Counting down the days till we see you

Hi Mau

I was looking away cause normally I faint at the sight of a little prick. Trev and I were just saying that the course was amazing in that it completely allayed our fears over injections and that it should be something everyone tries!!!
