Day 166

Work on Sully has started at last and the gang at Footloose4x4.com are doing a brilliant job.  The interior has been stripped out and superfluous "furniture" behind the front seats removed.  The bulkhead and frame have been handcut, fitted, removed again, finished and permanently re-fitted.  The strength of the bulkhead is immediately apparent and although it isn't a formal roll-cage, certainly looks strong enough to act like one.  In order words, if we roll Sully we'd be stuffed in the front and pretty much end up as spoldges of raspberry jam whilst the back would be protected - so much for getting our priorities in the right order!!!!  Slideshow

But the finish on it is fabulous and will eventually leave us with a sealed enclosure for the kitchen on the "girl's side" for a mostly dust-free environment (and hopefully less sand to be crunching on).  And by carpeting the cab side of the bulkhead we are also hoping to create a good enough seal that would also reduce the dust in the cab (..and hopefully less sand to be crunching on!! hehe).  We have enough space in the back for a 3/4 size shelf mounted across the top with enough room for 4 high lid wolf boxes, 6 low lids, 6 gomo boxes and space left for spares, oils, hot shower and other luxuries that we didn't think we'd have space for.  Once the current door covering is removed from the back door, a stainless steel box is being fitted and we'll be storing the kitchen table in the back section and dirty braai grids etc in the front.  The box bottom has slots cut into it for easy cleaning.

Filming has begun in ernest and Sully will be the feature vehicle in the guide to equipment and preparation being included in the http://www.ruggedguide.com DVD set due for release in June 2009.  We are very proud parents!  An abridged version for marketing purposes is being included in a major Land Rover magazine.... all very exciting.
